The Imperativ (Imperative) in Swedish is used to give commands, instructions, or requests. It is typically used in direct speech to tell someone to do something.

Active Voice Conjugation:

Person Example Verb: att tala (to speak)
Singular/Plural tala!

Swedish uses the same form for both singular and plural commands. The imperative is formed by using the verb stem without the -a or -ar ending.

Negative Commands:

To form a negative command, simply add inte (not) before the verb:

  • Tala inte! (Don’t speak!)

Examples:

  • Affirmative Command: Tala långsammare! (Speak slower!)
  • Negative Command: Tala inte så snabbt! (Don’t speak so fast!)
