Futuro do Subjuntivo (Future Subjunctive)
The futuro do subjuntivo is used to express hypothetical or uncertain future actions that depend on a condition or are triggered by another future event.
It is especially common in conditional clauses and after certain conjunctions such as quando (when), se (if), and assim que (as soon as).
Mood
The subjunctive mood expresses possibility, doubt, or conditions rather than certainty.
The future tense in the subjunctive mood refers to actions that will occur if certain conditions are met or when a specific future time arrives.
- Subjunctive mood = possibility, uncertainty, conditions
- Future tense = events that might or will happen in the future
Formation
Take the third-person plural (eles) form of the pretérito perfeito do indicativo, remove the final -am, and add the future subjunctive endings:

---|---|---|---|
Eu (I) | falar | comer | partir |
Tu (you, sg.) | falares | comeres | partires |
Ele/Ela/Você | falar | comer | partir |
Nós (we) | falarmos | comermos | partirmos |
Vós (you, pl.) | falardes | comerdes | partirdes |
Eles/Elas/Vocês | falarem | comerem | partirem |
Note: The eu and ele/ela/você forms are identical and have no ending change.
