Futurum perfektum (Future Perfect Tense)

The future perfect tense (futurum perfektum) in Norwegian describes actions that will have been completed by a certain point in the future.

Usage:

  • To express actions that will have been completed by a future time: Innen i morgen har jeg fullført oppgaven. (By tomorrow, I will have completed the assignment.)
  • To speculate about past actions: De vil ha kommet til festen før klokken 8. (They will have arrived at the party before 8 o'clock.)

Formation:

The future perfect tense is formed using the auxiliary verb å ha (to have) in the future tense and the past participle of the main verb.

Conjugation:

Person Verb: å snakke (to speak)
Jeg vil ha snakket
Du vil ha snakket
Han/Hun vil ha snakket
Vi vil ha snakket
Dere vil ha snakket
De vil ha snakket

Common Time Expressions:

  • Innen (by)
  • Før (before)

Examples:

  • Jeg vil ha fullført prosjektet innen fredag. (I will have completed the project by Friday.)
  • De vil ha reist før vi ankommer. (They will have left before we arrive.)
